Born in 752, the young heiress of three demesne manors near Amblève is a very troublesome child and therefore kept under strict surveillance of her uncle, Sir Egier of the North Gate.
On the road from Bastogne to Cologne, the little town of Amblève has developed around a strong square castle on top of a spur along the river of the same name.
